9 Proven Ways To Increase Website Traffic

9 Proven Ways To Increase Website Traffic

So you’ve validated your business idea, you’ve launched your website and everything is looking really good.

But there’s barely any increase in the traffic coming to your website.

You’ve checked your Google Analytics and you’re seeing no website traffic apart from the traffic you’ve produced because you’ve been looking at your own website.

You’ve invested a significant amount of blood, sweat, and tears to get your business up and running, and there’s no way you’re going to let it fail due to a lack of traffic.

This blog will show you nine proven ways you can drive traffic to your website using a variety of digital marketing strategies and tactics.

But Why Trust Us?

If this is the first time you’ve read our digital marketing blog – welcome! We’re so pleased you’ve found us and we truly hope you get value out of the content we’re sharing that will contribute t the growth of your company.

We’ve been working in the digital marketing industry in both Melbourne & London for almost a decade now where we specialise in SEO services, social media marketing services, website design & development, and digital marketing consulting.

During this time we’ve worked with many different-sized businesses across just about every niche you can think of.

And those businesses typically all have the same problem beyond the usual lack of sales, leads & revenue.

They are all unsure of how to increase website traffic and how that converts into those sales, leads & revenue. They’ve got really great services and products but they’re missing that all-important website traffic part.

So we’ve been able to come in and help them with that aspect of their business, connect the dots between traffic & sales, and improve the growth potential of their business.

And that’s what we are going to explain in this blog as to what you can do to improve and increase website traffic for your own business.

1. Blogging

This is easily our favourite way to increase website traffic because it’s the most effective, low-cost way of doing so, but the most underutilised.

Why? Because most business owners see blog posts as words on a screen and nothing more.

But they’re so much more than that and all it takes is a little bit of effort and research, and blogs can be used as a “soft” approach to marketing your business without marketing your business.

This is especially true if a majority of your competitors aren’t using this content marketing strategy to grow their respective businesses and, in turn, presents an opportunity to improve the awareness of your own business in your market.

As a business owner, you are the person in your business who is best placed to showcase the specific expertise and knowledge that you have built up over a period of time.

By when you start a blog, you are able to show your prospects that you know what you’re talking about and that your business products or services are the answer to their problems.

2. SEO or Search Engine Optimisation

You’ve no doubt probably heard about SEO or search engine optimisation before. It essentially means optimising your website to ensure it can be found in Google or Bing search results.

But how can this long-term marketing channel increase website traffic for your business?

With a bit of research, understanding, and some patience, you’ll be driving significant volumes of organic traffic to your website that can be turned into sales & leads.

SEO can be quite a rabbit hole to go down, so we’ll try and simplify everything here for you to get you started.

We’d recommend creating content on each of your most important web pages that include keywords that are relevant to your business products or services.

A little bit like blogs, there’s no point in writing content for the sake of writing content and then expecting it to be found on Google or Bing.

This written on-page SEO content needs to be informative and essentially help answer questions that your prospect is typing into the Google or Bing search bar.

Other aspects to consider with this content are the titles of the pages you are writing about, the meta descriptions, the word length and the amount of internal and external links you are featuring.

There are literally billions of searches happening on Google & Bing on a daily basis which means people are looking for your products or services.

This also means there is no excuse for you not to be doing everything you can to ensure your website is showing up on these search engines for the keywords that matter most to your business.

3. Paid Advertising

This one is a no-brainer and most likely the first option you’ll think of when trying to increase website traffic for your business.

Platforms such as Facebook and Google have built their respective businesses on offering an ad platform that exists to drive targeted traffic to your website to complete an action you want your audience to take.

These ad platforms are incredibly effective in increasing website traffic but you need to be careful with how you spend your ad budget.

As good as these platforms are in driving traffic and making sales for your business, they can easily chew up your budget and produce little-to-no results if you don’t know what you’re doing.

And that’s when you might approach a social media marketing agency to assist you with this for your business.

4. Social Media Content

Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and Pinterest are great social media platforms to market your business on.

They’ve all got their own version of content that can help increase website traffic for your business and all appeal to a certain demographic, but all of them are equally as effective.

One thing to remember is that your customer may not be on all of the above social media platforms.

For example, if you are a home care service provider, there is a high chance that your target audience isn’t going to be on TikTok but they’ll certainly be on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

If you are posting on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or Pinterest, you could absolutely share your blog content on these platforms as a way to answer questions and drive traffic back to your website.

5. Facebook Groups

If there is one thing we absolutely love about Facebook is the number of areas within the platform where you can reach your target audience beyond paid advertising.

One of these areas would have to be Facebook Groups where communities of like-minded people come together and chat all things about whatever topic the group pertains to.

And this is where you as a business owner can share your expertise through your content whether it be blogs, infographics, videos, etc.

As we mentioned, the people in these groups are usually there because they are interested in the topics being discussed. These people are also potential customers for your business.

A word of advice when participating in these groups – make sure you are contributing to the group beyond sharing your own content.

A lot of these groups are firm on this “give and take” approach and we believe contributing to an online community where your customers exist can do wonders for your increasing your website traffic.

6. Guest Posts

This is an extension of creating blog posts as we mentioned before but for the purpose of creating this content for other websites and linking back to your website.

This is also known as referral traffic which Google absolutely loves seeing when ranking your website.

This is a strategy typically used for SEO purposes and this is a great way to drive traffic from external, relevant websites as well as grow your website’s authority in Google’s eyes.

In a nutshell, you need to find websites that are relevant and similar to your own, get in touch with them via email, and pitch your idea for a blog post that you could write for them.

The key here is to request a link in the article that links back to a certain page on your website. This link will need to be at least 3 words and relevant to the page that is being linked to.

Now, based on what we’ve mentioned here, cold emailing website owners pitching a blog article might seem like a fairly easy thing to do and for the most part, it is.

However, prepare yourself for the fact that your offer might be rejected or, worse, you might not get a response whatsoever.

It’s very much a numbers game and how you can communicate the upfront value that the person you’re pitching to will receive with this article.

7. Internal Linking

This is a fairly easy one and something you’ll have full control over which is always a good thing.

Internal linking between pages and posts on a website is a fairly common practice with regards to an SEO strategy. Essentially, when you’re connecting pages on your website, it allows Google & Bing to crawl and rank your website more easily.

The end result here is that your relevant pages will rank on Google & Bing which will increase traffic to your site in the long term.

Not too dissimilar to the guest posting & blogging suggestion we made above, you need to ensure that the pages you’re linking to are relevant to the page you’re linking from.

If you don’t, you’ll confuse Google as to what the linked page is about and they won’t rank you as well as they possibly could.

Make life easier for yourself, and more importantly Google, and link to relevant pages & posts on your website.

8. Email Marketing

If there’s one digital marketing channel that you have complete control over with regards to its overall impact on your business, it would have to be email marketing.

Not only is it an owned digital marketing channel, but you have complete control over the content you send your prospects and customers.

This is a channel where you can not only share information about your products & services, but this is where you can also build your brand among those who matter most to your business.

Again, this is another avenue where you can share the blog content we mentioned before which is a really effective way to increase website traffic among people who have already requested your content.

9. Collaborations

Networking and collaborating with others in your industry is a great way to grow your website traffic and overall brand awareness in an online sense.

There are many ways you can do this including blog content, backlinking, interviewing them or interviewing you on a podcast, or creating a joint product or service that complements each other’s respective businesses.

These are just some of the collaboration ideas you could do to increase website traffic for your business in another community that is similar to yours.
